Who Are We

We are a student group from Avans University dedicated to the restoration and maintenance of the Loonse en Drunense Duinen. We will be taking samples and conducting research in the desert over the next few months and will update our blog informing you on our discoveries!

Magdalena Górska

My name is Magdalena Górska. I come from Poland.  Currently, I am a student at Avans University in Breda. I moved to the Netherlands more than 3 years ago. As a fourth-year student of Environmental Science for Sustainable Energy and Technology major I share a huge passion for smart solutions for a clean, safe and sustainable living environment. In addition to my keen interest and passion, I am dedicated to making sure that humans can live in harmony with the earth, seeing as our resources are limited and it is essential for us to come up with alternative energy sources.

Last year I did my internship in Sustainability for Seychelles. I was a project manager which was very challenging and motivating, that is the reason why I have chosen a leader/project manager position in this Loonse en Drunense Duinen project.

Phillip Worster

I’m Phill, the secretary of our group. I’m an American studying at Avans on Erasmus for the next few months. I really enjoy working in the field for different environmental projects whenever I can. I chose to work on the Loonse en Drunense Duinen project because I have never heard of a desert in the Netherlands, and I wanted to explore this new region to me. I am excited to learn about the unique species here and how to protect them through our investigation on this project.

Emese Orosz

I am Emese Orosz, fourth year student at Avans University of Applied Science. I come from Hungary. I studied higher level biology and chemistry, then I moved to the Netherlands to continue my study. Currently, I am following the Environmental Science of Sustainable Energy and Technology (ESSET) program. During my studying, I have participated in several projects regarding to sustainability and nature. I did my last internship at Wetsus in Leeuwarden, I really enjoyed working on the calcium phosphate recovery project there. My plan is to work on projects, which help to prevent environmental damages. Moreover, I like to work in a laboratory, analyzing different kind of samples by several methods. That is why, I am chosen to be the laboratory specialist in our current project of Loonse en Drunense Duinen.

Lars Van Kleef

My name is Lars van Kleef. I am a 21 year old student studying in my fourth year at Avans Hogeschool, where I follow an environmental geography minor. Originally I come from the province Zeeland in The Netherlands. My hobbies include fitness, fishing, partying and hanging out with friends. My main interest relating to our current project is creating maps, which is why I am responsible for the maps created by our project group. I started to like working with mapping software during my internship in Sweden and would like to get better at it.
